Driving marked patrol units, the uniformed deputies are the most visible members of the Sheriffs Office. With Tazewell County consisting of an area of 531 square miles the Patrol Division’s duties include crime deterrent patrols throughout all of the communities within the county along with answering emergency calls.



The Sheriff’s Office Patrolmen must receive and pass a variety of training courses in the areas of self defense, handling of firearms, patrol procedures, domestic disputes, drug identification, law, public safety issues, and more. Some officers have received specialized training including Intoxilyzer Operation, Field Training Officers, Narcotic Interdiction, and training in Forensic Evidence Collection..
